If the player successfully navigates through the dungeon and survives, they can store their acquired loot in a designated storage area for future use or potential sale. If the player is killed, they lose all of their possessions and equipment. Surviving a match allows players to extract loot for future matches. The playable area gradually shrinks as the match progresses, forcing players to converge into encounters with each other. The game features PvPvE (player versus player versus environment) gameplay, where players engage in combat against monsters to obtain valuable items, all while remaining vigilant against potential threats from other players. Players can select one of seven character classes (fighter, barbarian, rogue, ranger, wizard, cleric, and bard). You're basically fucked if a group sees you and wants you dead. Flanking or running away become infeasible as you activate each room and become swarmed by enemies. Dark and Darker is borderline impossible solo. I see so much room for expansion and customization in the full product. Intelligent use of abilities is required to have enough resources to reach extraction. Spells and abilities have finite uses to prevent spamming. I killed so many barbarians by luring them into a narrow passage and cutting them to ribbons while their weapon clanged off of the walls.
Combat is fun with enough nuance to allow for skilled play. The gameplay loop is solid: fight through a map then either exit or go deeper. I played around 12 hours over the weekend.
